Fpt University Organizes First Tech Challenge Robot Manufacturing Playground in Vietnam 2024 - Ftc Vietnam 2024

For the first time, the FIRST Tech Challenge was held in Vietnam - one of the oldest international Robotics competitions for high school students around the world.

On November 7, 2023, in Hanoi, FPT University officially launched the Kick-off Ceremony and signed a cooperation agreement with FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a non-profit organization for international youth, founded in 1989 - the founder and organizer of the "FIRST Tech Challenge" tournament.

Announcing the organization of the FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam 2024 (FTC Vietnam 2024) robot competition with the theme " Young generation creates the future".

What is FIRST Tech Challenge?

The FIRST Tech Challenge is not just about building robots, but also about teams designing, building, programming, and operating robots to compete against each other in leagues. The robot kits can be used from year to year and can be programmed using various levels of the Java language.

In addition to designing and building robots, teams also participate in fundraising, branding, communications, and community outreach to win various prizes.

Teams will be guided by coaches and mentors, students can develop STEM skills and practice mechanical design principles, while also honing teamwork, innovation and creativity skills.

Each season will culminate with regional tournaments and the FIRST championship in the USA.

The 2019-2020 season had nearly 700,000 contestants from more than 100 different countries.

What is FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam?

FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam is the first official FTC tournament held in Vietnam under the copyright of FIRST in the United States with the desire to create a technology playground to encourage the spirit of learning, creativity, and social concerns of Vietnamese students, while inspiring and motivating students to learn, practice, and apply new technologies, contributing to building high-quality resources to meet the needs of the 4.0 industrial revolution.

FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam tournament theme: “CENTERSTAGE” – the role of STEM in the fields of art, creativity, entertainment, while responding to and raising awareness of the interdisciplinary nature of Art in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam is pioneered and led by the FPT University team with the support of the Vietnamese engineering community, technology experts, and young people in the FIRST network in Vietnam and globally.

Contestants

Be a student nationwide (from grade 7 to grade 12 in the 2023-2024 school year) or be a student at any training unit nationwide.

Each participating team will form a group of 3 to 15 people with 1 mentor who is a teacher or any professional individual.

Group members are encouraged to contribute any skills they already have, such as programming, electronics, metalworking, graphic design, web design, public speaking, videography, etc. The mentor will mentor students and help them gain skills and confidence in a safe, engaging environment.

Rules and how to play

Teams participating in the competition will have to design robots that can draw, do creative work with humans, and even "play" with paper airplanes created by the teams themselves.

The competing teams will go through 4 rounds: Preliminary round, Knockout round, Semi-final round and Final round.

Qualifying Round: 2-3 teams will be paired into 1 Alliance, specifically for each round, 1 team will be paired with 1-2 other teams to become 1 Alliance randomly. Each team will have 4-5 rounds in the Qualifying Round. Teams will be randomly assigned to Qualifying Matches. The schedule for these matches, including the matchup and Alliance color, will be announced before the match day.

Elimination Round: In Elimination Matches, Alliances compete in a ranked structure, with seed #1 facing seed #4 and seed #2 facing seed #3, to determine which Alliance advances to the Semi-final. In Elimination Matches, Teams receive a win, loss, or tie instead of Ranking Points. For each matchup, matches will be played to determine which Alliance continues, the first team to win two matches, and ties will be replayed until an Alliance has two wins. The number of teams in the Elimination Round will be based on the number of teams in the competition. If there are 21 or more teams in the competition, Elimination Matches will have 3 teams per Alliance. If there are 20 or fewer teams, each Alliance will have 2 teams.

Semi-Finals :In the Semi-Finals, seed #1 faces seed #4 and seed #2 faces seed #3, with the winner of each semi-final becoming the Red and Blue Alliance in the Finals.

Final Round :The 2 winning alliances from the Semi-Final Round will continue to compete for the championship.

Announcing the FIRST Tech Challenge Vietnam 2024 award

The prize is extremely attractive, the total prize value is up to hundreds of millions of dong.

The competition will have many awards for teams such as: Inspire Award, Think Award, Connect Award, Innovate Award, Design Award, Motivate Award.

Inspire Award:

- Members will be fully sponsored with a kit worth 50,000,000 VND.

- Full sponsorship of airfare and participation costs for the FIRST Tech Challenge championship in the US in April 2024 with a value of up to 300,000,000 VND . At the same time, you will be supported by the Vietnamese team and mentors at Maker Viet.

Additionally, FIRST candidates can apply for scholarships to colleges, universities and engineering programs around the world worth more than $80 million.

Participation fee

The registration fee 5,000,000 VND(equivalent to $210 USD). Teams will be contacted for payment details within 1-2 weeks of completing the application.

If this cost is a significant hardship for your team, you can fill out a financial support application here before January 9, 2024. Teams must be self-funded and demonstrate their fundraising efforts in their application before applying for financial support.

+ All teams must register through the FIRST Tech Challenge website to receive a team number, be recognized as a valid FIRST team, and be able to order from PITSCO.
