Elevator Photocell - Smart Elevator Door Sensor
TABLE OF CONTENTS
WHAT IS A PHOTOCELL ELEVATOR?
The elevator Photocell system is also known by many names such as elevator door sensor , elevator door photosensor , elevator infrared curtain , or elevator cabin door curtain , even called PHOTOCELL bar . This diverse name for an elevator safety device shows the richness and variety of its application.
Elevator photocell is not only a common safety device but also considered as an intelligent sensor integrated at the elevator door. Its main task is to detect obstacles and ensure that the elevator door operates stably. With such diverse names, elevator photocell actively controls problems related to the elevator door, helping to protect the safety of passengers and ensure the performance of the elevator.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE OF ELEVATOR PHOTOCELL
On both sides of the elevator cabin door , two elevator Photocell bars are installed with each bar length of about 2000mm. As mentioned earlier, the elevator sensor is a protective device, specialized in detecting obstacles at the elevator door. Therefore, installing this device at the elevator door helps ensure comprehensive protection of the elevator's entrance and exit range.
When the elevator starts its operation and the elevator door opens or closes, the elevator photocell or elevator door sensor will be activated. During this process, the sensor will scan and detect any obstructions that may appear at the elevator door. In case no obstruction is detected within a certain period of time, the elevator will continue to operate normally. This ensures the safety and performance of the elevator during operation.
When the elevator door sensor detects an obstacle, the elevator will stop operating and the photocell will send out a warning signal. Operation will resume only after the problem is resolved and there is no obstacle in front of the elevator door.
If there is an obstruction at the elevator door, the elevator Photocell system will immediately detect it and the elevator will automatically open the door, waiting until the problem is resolved before continuing operation. This ensures that the elevator will only continue operation when all safe conditions are restored.
COMMON TYPES OF ELEVATOR PHOTOCELLS
There are two main types of elevator photocells , designed in point and bar form, to serve special purposes in ensuring elevator safety and performance. Below is a detailed description of both these types of elevator photocells - elevator door sensors :
|
Dot Photocell |
Strip Photocells |
|
|
Describe |
Point photocells are sensors designed as a small single point. |
Bar photocells have a long, narrow, bar-like shape. |
|
Application |
Often used to detect small obstructions, such as fingers, when elevator doors are closing. |
Usually installed along the length of the elevator door and acts as a stop strip. |
|
Installation location |
Placed in strategic locations, such as next to the elevator door frame or on the door panel. |
Used to detect obstacles along the length of the door, preventing the elevator door from closing when there is an obstacle. |
Both types of elevator door sensor photocells play an important role in ensuring elevator safety by preventing the door from closing in the presence of an obstacle, minimizing the risk of accidents and unwanted collisions. The choice between point and bar type depends on the specific requirements of the elevator system and the installation environment.

STRUCTURE AND BASIC TECHNICAL PARAMETERS OF ELEVATOR PHOTOCELL
What is the structure and basic technical parameters of the elevator Photocell ? Let's find out with SANKYO Elevator through the following content:
Elevator door sensor structure - PHOTOCELL
Elevator door sensor - elevator photocell is composed of 3 main parts ( photocell bar type ) including:
-
Two receivers placed on both sides of the elevator cabin door frames emit infrared rays to control elevator obstacles. The two receivers of the elevator photocell are installed on the cabin door or at both ends of the cabin door.
-
Power supply: The power supply is where the power is stored and the photocell operating device is installed. This is an important part of the elevator door sensor that helps it operate most accurately, also known as the infrared transmitter and receiver circuit.
-
The wiring system provides electrical connection to the photocell operations.
Basic specifications of elevator door sensor - PHOTOCELL elevator
Our elevator door sensors are manufactured in a variety of specifications, optimized to suit each specific elevator type. Below are some of the specifications that SANKYO Elevator has compiled for your reference, to provide an overview of the product's technical specifications:
-
The height of the elevator photocell will include sizes such as: 2m, 1.2m, 1m;
-
The power source that the infrared curtain uses is 220V AC with a frequency of 50Hz;
-
The feedback signal of elevator sensor is 0V and 24V DC;
-
Elevator photosensor installation location: Along both sides of the cabin door or on the elevator door frame;
-
Function: Detects obstacles at the door, sends a warning signal to the electrical cabinet and the closing door will open and the elevator will temporarily stop moving. This helps to keep a safe distance for users, especially for children, the elderly, the disabled, and pregnant women.
IS IT NECESSARY TO INSTALL ELEVATOR SENSORS - ELEVATOR PHOTOCELLS?
The installation of photocells - elevator door sensors plays an important role in ensuring the safety and performance of the elevator system. Here are some reasons why the installation of elevator photocells is considered necessary:
Passenger safety
Photocell helps detect obstacles at the elevator door, preventing the door from closing when people or objects are entering or exiting the elevator. This helps to avoid the risk of collision and injury to passengers.
Prevent incidents
Photocell plays an important role in preventing incidents when there is an obstacle in the elevator door, helping to protect people and property.
Comply with safety regulations
Installing photocells is a safety compliance measure that helps the elevator system meet technical requirements and standards, while keeping the entire system operating safely and efficiently.
Ensuring performance
Photocells help ensure that elevator doors only operate when there are no obstructions, helping to maintain operating performance and avoid unnecessary wear and tear on the system.
Legal and insurance proof
The installation of elevator photocells is a necessary legal evidence, helping to ensure legal compliance and supporting the assessment process from the insurance side.
In short, installing elevator photocell - elevator door sensor is not only a good choice for safety but also helps the elevator system operate efficiently and reliably.
In summary, elevator photocells - elevator door sensors play an important role in modern elevator systems. They not only increase the safety of the elevator but also ensure the lives of users by preventing unfortunate incidents. Therefore, it is recommended to regularly check the operation of home elevator photocells to detect and resolve problems promptly.
